Contoured Glass Fused
Pendant

This glass fused pendant has been fired so as to produce softly rounded edges and a raised central design.

Contour fusing results in a pendant that retains its basic shape with nicely rounded edges and raised central feature. Because of its simple design it can be made in varying colors as well different sizes.

System 96 or Bullseye glass can be used to make this pendant as it will fuse easily with either COE.

Materials:

  • 1 piece for the base about 2 1/4" long x 1 1/16" wide.
  • 2 pieces about 1 5/8" long x 1/2" wide.
  • 1 piece about 5/16" square.
  • Thin fire paper or primed shelf.
  • Cutter.
  • Fusing kiln.

Cutting & Fusing:

Step 1. Cut glass to size as outlined above.

Step 2. Clean and dry pieces thoroughly.

Step 3. Place two narrow pieces on the base, place small piece in the center of these two lengths.

Do not get finger marks on the pieces, hold by the edges only.

Step 4. Using primed shelf or thin fire paper place item on shelf.

Put shelf into fusing kiln.

Step 5. Bring temperature up gradually to about 1400 F (760 C).

If using thin fire paper keep kiln vented until the binders burn off and then close vent.

Hold at around 1400 F temperature and watch for edges to soften and become rounded.

You may need to adjust the temperature to achieve the desired outcome.

Do not over heat as the item will fully fuse and the raised details will be lost.

Step 5. Switch off, vent kiln and allow temperature to drop to about 1000 F (540 C).

Close vent and cool to room temperature.

Step 6. When cool remove item.

You should now have a jewelry piece with nicely defined design features.
